Today I’m linking up with Shawntele over at Rambling With Grace to create a list of our 5 favorite things about ___________. So, of course, I figured I needed to list what I love about being a Pastor’s wife! So, uh, I worked on that. And worked on it. And thought real hard about it. Cause I wanted it to be Deep. Insightful. Thought-provoking. And maybe even Inspiring. So here it is:
1. People. Well, it’s a good thing I love people! Since that’s the bulk of this job, huh?
But seriously, I do love people. I’ve been called a “social butterfly” a time or two. Or three. I love getting to know them, and do life with them. It brings me so much joy and satisfaction. It’s what I believe the ministry is all about.
2. Food. True to all stereotypes? Probably. But I love having social events! And cooking for them. I love having people over to my house and having dinner. I love going to women’s teas. I’ve enjoyed a few potlucks in my time. And I especially love taking food to families who just brought a new baby home from the hospital! I think food is one of my spiritual gifts.
3. Family. I love the sense of family that comes from being part of the ministry. I’m blessed to have a wonderful Christian family on both my husband and my sides. My dad and mom are missionaries. My brother-in-law and sister are pastors. My entire life has been about living this life of ministry. And I love the connection all of that brings. I love all of the ministry families we’ve served with over the years. Each has impacted us in individual ways. I love the special sense of connection I feel with other Pastor’s wives. We are a unique breed. But I’ll stop there.
I love family.
4. Praying. To me the opportunity to pray for and with the people around me for their needs, desires, wishes, hopes, dreams, fears, and guidance is one of the most important parts of this “life” of the ministry. Many nights are spent praying for friends and loved ones and their needs. And I love that. Because I have confidence that the same Savior who I entreat for the needs of others, also knows and is working on behalf of my own needs as well.
5. Knowing There’s A Bigger World. The ministry has moved us to several places over our years (7 to be exact). And while I don’t relish moving (hates it, I do!), I have certainly seen a lot of the world (well…the Eastern seaboard of the US. It’s PART of the world!). I have experienced some bi-polar cultures within the US. And I have LOVED that! The South is NOT like the North, people. And the Midwest isn’t like either of those. It’s been cool to realize that while the US is a melting pot of cultures, those cultures are still unique and distinct and that affects how we “do” ministry. Thankfully, with all these differences, we serve a great big God who created all things and gives us the ability to reach these people when it’s not within our natural ability to otherwise.
I love this life. I feel blessed to be called by God to love on His people.
What’s your favorite part(s) about the ministry?

I enjoyed reading your list, I imagine being a pastor’s wife is also a lot of hard work. I can see why you enjoy it so much; great food and prayer, right up my alley!
Thank you so much for linking up with me today, I hope to see you again next week!
Thanks Shawntele! I had fun. And being a Pastor’s wife is a lot of hard work. But it’s worth it.
I’m with you on the food – I also love cooking for people! Although it can get a bit much when I’m really tired and there’s lots of it to be done, but then that’s ministry too!
Yes it is, isn’t it? Glad you came by today.
Hi there! Stacey sent me your way and I’m so glad she did. GREAT content! I will be back again…and again…and again:) Oh, and btw, the people are definitely my favorite part. I love the fact that my kids have so many “grandparents”!
Thanks Becky! Your blog is beautiful! And I love ALL of our grandparents too. It’s wonderful, isn’t it?
Hi Julie Ann, My name is Julie Ann also. (I picked up on your website from Tabitha’s page) I am not a Pastor’s wife, but I am a church secretary. I do dearly love our minister and his wife. They are wonderful people. I enjoyed reading your posting about life as the wife of a Pastor and the things you love about that. You are a blessing. As church members we really do become ‘family.’ I thank God for that and I wish all people had a church to be a part of. We’ll keep praying for that!
Hi Julie! I’m glad you popped over. And I agree – I wish everyone could experience the joyful community of a church family. There’s really nothing like it, is there?
