It’s Been a Pin-terific Week!

It’s no secret that I love Pinterest! And this week has been especially Pin-terific! I’ve been cranking through projects I’ve discovered through my Pinterest addiction … resourcing skills. *wink*wink*

So I thought it would be kind of fun to show you what I’ve been up to.

I’m Homesteading

You all know I’m a homesteader, right? I blog about it over here. Anywho, I’ve got a board dedicated to all things homesteading. Right now, my summer growing season is winding down so I’m working on making sure I don’t lose any of my harvest – particularly my herbs. I grew oregano, basil, cilantro, parsley, and rosemary this summer.

This week I was focusing on making pesto with my basil. Traditional pesto is made with pine nuts. I love pine nuts! I do not love their price. They blow my budget. So I found this recipe for Basil Walnut Pesto and, after a test round a couple of weeks ago, decided to make as much of this as I could.

I’m making large batches and then freezing it in ice-cube trays to pre-portion it. If you have eaten pesto then you know that a little goes a long way, so these small cubes will last me most of the winter, I would suspect! Just in time to start growing my new batch of herbs next year!

Parenting

Planting Seeds of Biblical Truth

I love being a mom! I especially love talking about God with our kids and watching their eyes light up as they gain understanding. Early on in this parenting journey, we made an intentional choice to do family devotions regularly. Almost 12 years into it, we need help coming up with fresh ideas. :) So I’m always on the hunt. It was time for a new set of  devos for us, when I discovered this resource, pinned it, and printed it. It’s sitting by the dinner table ready for us to start next week!

School Ideas

I’ve also been making plans for our school year which is getting ready to start (we homeschool). I’m doing anatomy with my kids so I’ve been looking for the most creative things I can find to supplement our learning. Like this candy blood model we’ll do. (Cool!)

Home Helps

Because I’m a total tightwad (and proud of it!) I refuse to spend money needlessly so, my Home Helps board is FULL of pins I regularly use. Like homemade foaming soap. I feel it necessary to clarify that I use Mrs. Meyers soap. There I feel better. :)

I also figured out how to re-use my Swiffer wet-jet bottle by removing the cap so I can put it my own vinegar/water mixture!

Food-Baking

Well, of course I did some cooking too! We had an office picnic this week and I was tasked with bringing a dessert. So I decided to make these Cinnamon Chip Cookies.

Cinnamon Chip Cookies

I was especially excited to make these because I had gotten the cinnamon chips from my day-trip to Yutzy’s Market – the Amish market near our house. And, uh, in case you were wondering, they were awesome!

I’m Feeling Crafty(ish)

Lastly, this morning I woke up early enough to get my quiet time in and get some work done (minor miracle for a Friday!) and it left me a little time to myself before the thundering herd of elephants, a/k/a, my children awoke. So I grabbed all of the supplies to make this cool scarf I pinned just the other day!

Now that was FUN!
